Math Placement fo Business Degrees

All new School of Business freshmen must take the ALEKS Placement Assessment. The only exception will be for students who have earned credit for MTH 161 or 171.  

ALEKS score placement for MAS110     ≥ 76 and high school Pre-calculus
ALEKS score placement for MTH161     ≥ 76 and high school Pre-calculus

Every Business student must complete at least one Calculus course as part of his or her degree requirements.

BBA degree students must complete MAS 110 or MTH 161*
BSBA degree students must complete MTH 161* and 162 or their equivalent.  
*This requirement may be satisfied with AP/IB or A-level exams

Access the ALEKS assessment through CaneLink. The ALEKS assessment may be taken from any location with internet access. Students are expected to complete the ALEKS assessment on their own, without any outside assistance of any kind; this includes any individual, websites, etc.  All students must adhere to the University of Miami’s Honor Code.

Math Sequencing for Business Degrees

B.B.A. is the Bachelor of Business Administration

Full Math Sequence for the BBA DEGREE: One Calculus course and two statistics courses are required: MAS 110 or MTH 161, MAS 201, and MAS 202.
(MTH 099, MTH 101, MTH 107 and/or MTH 108 are prerequisite courses that may be necessary to complete prior to enrollment in MAS 110 or MTH 161)

B.S.B.A. is the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

Full Math Sequence for the BSBA DEGREE: Two Calculus courses and two statistics courses are required:  MTH 161, MTH 162, MAS 311, and MAS 312
(MTH 099, MTH 101, MTH 107 and/or MTH 108 are prerequisite courses that may be necessary to complete prior to enrollment in MTH 161)

NEW STUDENTS WITH TRANSFER CREDIT OR DUAL ENROLLMENT CREDIT

Any student who has received college credit for a mathematics course from another institution needs to have the course evaluated for equivalency.  Email the course syllabus and course description to Leticia Oropesa at l.oropesa@math.miami.edu, and copy your registration advisor to have your course evaluated.
