Presented by: Miller School of Medicine
In the recent past, the regulatory climate for interaction between doctors and industry has changed markedly. The new regulations have increased transparency in doctor-industry relations and have reduced conflicts of interest and thus potential risk to patients. Yet it remains true that the development of drugs, devices and therapeutic strategies requires careful and non-conflicted interaction between industry and clinicians. Preventing such interaction entirely could block the development of new technologies that have the potential to save patients' lives. This panel of experts, from top industry executives to academic thought leaders, will review these issues and explore the possibility of creating a new partnership focused on a patient-centric model. This panel will specifically focus on what can be done to optimize the patient centricity of industry-doctors interaction, for the effective development of drugs, devices and other therapeutics, while managing conflict of interest, with the ultimate goal of providing patients with the best opportunity for health and wellness.
