Career Strategies for Uncertain Economic Times

Three experts in career consulting, Guy Cote, Partner-in-Charge of Heidrick & Struggles' Miami office, Elizabeth K. Hicks, Senior Client Partner in Korn/Ferry International's Miami office, and Michael Sivori, the Market Director for Kforce, overseeing Finance & Accounting and Technology staffing services in South Florida came together in a panel discussion to discuss " "Career Strategies for Uncertain Economic Times." The session hosted by the Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute and the Ziff Graduate Career Services Center at the School of Business Administration on October 22, 2009, featured topics related to finding a job and managing a career in this down economy. The panel was moderated by Terri A. Scandura, academic director of the Leadership Institute.

Annual Leadership Best Practices Conference

Terri Scandura, professor of management, academic director of the School’s Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute, and dean of the Graduate School presented at the Fourth Annual Leadership Best Practices Conference Washington, D.C. Nov. 5, 2009. Scandura’s presentation, “Leading Change in an Age of Uncertainty,” explained that during times of economic uncertainty, leaders must act like leaders. The session focused on how to keep your team engaged, aligned and committed through a downturn, as well as offer effective strategies for strategic focus, communication, and decision making. This prestigious conference was sponsored by The Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute at the University of Miami, and JJA CONSULTANTS.

The Leadership Institute sponsored a panel session entitled "Global Mindsets: Women in Leadership Leveraging Cross-Border Perspectives" during the University of Miami Global Business Forum in January 2009. The panel discussion was moderated by the Institute's Academic Director, Terri Scandura. The panelists included Maria Eugenia Brizuela de Avila, regional head for Latin America Corporate Sustainability, HSBC Latin America; Zayra F. Calderon, the CEO of the Duramed FUTURES Tour; and Rosa Sugrañes, chairman of the board and founder of Iberia Tiles. The panelists presented their perspectives on how to create and maintain a global mindset, and how their personal experiences shaped their own global mindsets. Read More & View Video

Terri Scandura, dean of the Graduate School, professor of management, and academic director of the Leadership Institute, presented "Mentoring and Transformational Leadership" at the annual Leadership Best Practices Conference Nov. 14, 2008 in Arlington, Va. Scandura's presentation focused on the importance of one-on-one coaching and mentoring and articulating a strategic transformational vision for leaders, how they are related, and best practices-based implementation methods.
