Executive MBA in Health Sector Management and Policy

The Executive MBA in Health Sector Management and Policy program emphasizes the development of business, technical, administrative, and leadership concepts as they apply to the health care industry. Participants attend class one weekend each month (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) for 23 months. The program allows physicians, nurse practitioners, hospital administrators, managed care executives, and other health care professionals to develop their leadership, management and business skills.  Learn more.

MD/MBA

The MD/MBA program, offered in partnership with the University’s Miller School of Medicine, adds an additional year to the four-year medical school curriculum. The MBA coursework ranges from financial reporting and corporate strategy to the legal aspects of health administration. The business curriculum is designed to prepare future physicians for the business complexities related to running a private medical practice or heading a group practice, as well as to prepare medical students for careers in health sector management, leadership and policy. Undergraduate Major in Health Sector Management and Policy

First offered in fall 2010, this undergraduate major expands the schools offerings in health sector management and policy, providing students an opportunity to gain additional knowledge beyond the minor which started in 2008. The major is designed for students interested in immediately pursuing business careers in the health care field as well as those interested in pursuing advanced degrees in health administration, health economics, medical sociology, and public health. The major enables students to gain skills and understanding in the specialized language, financing and politics of the health care system and to gain a competitive edge for launching their careers. Undergraduate Minor in Health Sector Management and Policy

This undergraduate program is designed to provide students interested in health care careers with a basic understanding of the management, economics, and financial structure of the health care industry. The minor requires four classes including Introduction to Health Sector Administration, Health Economics, Health Care Law and Ethics, and U.S. Health Care Crisis: Politics and Policies.

Doctoral Program

The School of Business is providing the business component for the Doctor in Nurse Practice (DNP) program at the UM School of Nursing and Health Studies. The DNP program demonstrates the University’s commitment to cutting-edge graduate study to develop nurses who will create innovations for nursing practice, nursing education, health care delivery, and health care policy. The program takes advantage of content experts, utilizing faculty from the School of Business and the School of Education in conjunction with School of Nursing and Health Studies faculty to teach courses.
