Arun Sarin, Former CEO, Vodafone Group Plc

Arun SarinArun Sarin has worked in the telecommunications industry for the majority of his career and, most recently, was Chief Executive of Vodafone Group Plc, the world’s largest mobile phone company by revenue.
 
Arun started his career in management consulting before joining Pacific Telesis Group in 1984. He pioneered the expansion of the mobile communications industry by acquiring numerous domestic and international cellular licenses. In 1997, he became President and Chief Operating Officer of AirTouch Communications, which was merged with Vodafone in 1999.

Arun was appointed Chief Executive of Vodafone in 2003 and initially focused on piecing together the numerous Vodafone companies to build a global company.  He regularly acquired and disposed assets around the world changing the Group’s M&A strategy to incorporate emerging markets, Broadband and Internet. He also changed the strategy of the company in 2006 and visited every company in the Vodafone Group to communicate it to employees.

In his final year as CEO and under the updated strategy, Arun raised guidance at the company’s half-year Results and then met or exceeded guidance at the year end results.

Arun was born in India and has MS in Engineering and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. He is married with two children.
