
Industry Titan Sam Zell Headlines Conference Organized by UM School of Business and School of Architecture

Some 300 professionals and University of Miami students attended the daylong conference, which explored the reshaping of urban spaces through global capital and ingenuity.
The conference, presented by the Kislak Foundation and The Witkoff Group, was organized by the University’s School of Business Administration and School of Architecture, which offer cross-disciplinary real estate programs.
The conference was headlined by a keynote session, “A Conversation on Global Capital and Real Estate Investment Trends” featuring Sam Zell, the industry giant and chairman of Equity Group Investments and Jorge M. Perez, chairman of Florida-based developer The Related Group, who moderated the session.
Other sessions included “Global Urban Design & Miami 2020,” which explored international trends in city design and development; “The Urban Developer: Investing, Place Making, and Developing in Cities (Then and Now),” which looked at the opportunities for urban developers in a world where megatrends, global cities, and local place making come together; and “The Role of Global Equity and Debt Flows in Reshaping Urban Real Estate Markets,” which featured insights on trends in commercial real estate and capital markets and the relative implications for the South Florida market.
