The University of Miami School of Business offers an Executive MBA in Health Sector Management and Policy as well as a joint MD/MBA program. The Executive MBA program, which has been offered for more than 30 years, begins in January each year. The MD/MBA program, offered in partnership with the University’s Miller School of Medicine, begins in the fall.
Executive MBA in Health Sector Management and Policy
The Executive MBA in Health Sector Management and Policy program emphasizes the development of business, technical, administrative, and leadership concepts as they apply to the health care industry. Participants attend class one weekend each month (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) for 23 months. The program allows physicians, nurse practitioners, hospital administrators, managed care executives, and other health care professionals to develop their leadership, management and business skills. The MD/MBA program adds an additional year to the four-year medical school curriculum. The MBA coursework ranges from financial reporting and corporate strategy to the legal aspects of health administration. The business curriculum is designed to prepare future physicians for the business complexities related to running a private medical practice or heading a group practice, as well as to prepare medical students for careers in health sector management, leadership and policy.
