Master of Science in Taxation

Program Begins in January and August

The Master of Science in Taxation (MST) program affords the accounting major (or equivalent) the opportunity to specialize in the area of federal taxation.

The MST places emphasis on a thorough grounding of the principles of tax research, corporate taxation, and flow-through entities. In addition, our course offerings address issues in both tax compliance and tax planning. Moreover, through electives, students are able to expand their areas of expertise, so that they may adequately prepare themselves for careers requiring a high degree of specialized tax knowledge in public accounting, private industry, and government.

Recent exit surveys of our MST graduates indicate that they are very satisfied with the opportunities provided by the program for them to develop their technical knowledge and skills, to develop their written and oral communication skills, the relevance of coursework in preparation for professional exams, and the overall quality of the masters program. Additionally, recruiters are very satisfied with our MST graduates, citing that they were highly trained and are successful in terms of both retention and subsequent promotion.

Meet CPA Exam Requirements

Through this program, those who have taken the accounting and related courses required for an undergraduate accounting degree can earn the additional 30 semester hours of education necessary to become a CPA (see the Frequently Asked Questions section for more information about these requirements).

Don’t have an undergraduate accounting degree but want to obtain an MST or  become a CPA?  Miami’s Accounting Summer Intensive Program’s been designed for you!

Accounting Summer Intensive Program - Begins in July

Those who hold an undergraduate degree (preferably in business) in a field other than accounting can also qualify for the MST program by first completing the School’s unique Accounting Summer Intensive Program, which begins in early July. Upon completion of the Summer Intensive, these students take one additional tax course offered in a 10-day intersission format so they can begin the MST program in August to earn the additional semester hours needed for the CPA exam.
