Industry Leaders Named to University of Miami Accounting Advisory Board

Accounting Advisory BoardCoral Gables, Fla. – Oct. 19, 2009 – The University of Miami School of Business Administration today announced the appointment of 14 members to a new Accounting Advisory Board. The appointments include some of Miami’s most prominent accounting industry leaders.  The Board is chaired by Cesar Clavaro, managing partner of Florida and Puerto Rico at Deloitte LLP. The new board members include:

  • Hector Mojena, Managing Partner-South Florida Business Unit, KPMG LLP
  • Arnaldo Perez, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Carnival Corp.
  • Richard Pollack, Director of Forensic and Business Valuation Services, Berkowitch, Dick, Pollack & Brant
  • Bill Pruitt, President, Pruitt Enterprises LP
  • Henry Pujol, Vice President, Corporate Controller – Finance, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
  • Robert Sanchez, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Ryder
  • Oscar Suarez, Managing Partner and Tax Partner-in-Charge, South Florida Ernst & Young LLP
  • Euclid Zurbaran, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers

“We are honored to have such a prestigious group of accounting professionals serve the UM School of Business Administration and especially the Department of Accounting which is undertaking a number of new and exciting initiatives,” said Barbara E. Kahn, dean of the School of Business Administration. “The School and its students will benefit immensely from the guidance of these distinguished business leaders as they will help to create new programs and opportunities for students, faculty, alumni and the community at large.”  

The Board will also play a critical role in the ongoing development of curriculum and building of the Department of Accounting that is nationally recognized for accounting research.

“Last month, in our very first meeting, the Board provided us with significant guidance in the development of our planned accelerated Masters in Accounting program,” said Professor Andrew J. Leone, chair of the Department of Accounting and William P. Metzger Professor of Accounting.  “We look forward to the continued guidance from this very experienced and influential group as we work to exceed the accomplishments already achieved by the School’s accounting department.”
