University of Miami School of Business Extends
Reach to Latin America, Asia, and Europe
Agreements with Leading Foreign Institutions to Enhance School’s Global Collaboration

Coral Gables, Fla. – Sept. 21, 2009 –
The University of Miami School of Business Administration today announced agreements with seven leading business schools and universities across Latin America, Asia and Europe to explore undergraduate and graduate student exchanges, faculty exchanges, joint executive education offerings and other initiatives. Under the agreements, the School will collaborate with the University of São Paulo in Brazil; the Pontifica Universidad Católica Business School in Peru (CENTRUM); the University of San Andrés School of Business in Argentina; the Fudan University School of Management in China; the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM); the Instituto de Empresa (IE) Business School; and Pompeu Fabra University in Spain.

“The University of Miami School of Business is uniquely positioned as an international gateway to Latin America, Europe and Asia, allowing us to act as an important connector for students, faculty and business professionals from around the world,” said Barbara Kahn, dean of the University of Miami School of Business Administration. “Not only will these partnerships lead to cooperation between our school and the other schools, we will also connect schools in each region with one another for the exchange of ideas and knowledge.”

Each of the agreements sets the stage for developing a range of exchange opportunities between the UM School of Business and the foreign schools, with several already in development. The School of Business and Fudan University in Shanghai have agreed to initiate one-semester MBA student exchange programs beginning in 2009.

Under the agreements with both Fudan and other universities, the schools will also explore research cooperation supported by such initiatives as short-term faculty visits and exchanges, the creation of cross-school research in specialized topic areas (i.e., Asian-Latin American business, international business), and jointly sponsored research conferences. The schools will also explore the feasibility of establishing new programs in doctoral education including semester-long doctoral student exchanges, distance learning via broadband teleconferencing, and one to two week faculty exchanges designed to provide students with in-depth exposure to research topics in areas not focused on by faculty at each school. In addition, the UM School of Business will work with both schools to explore the delivery of executive education programs such as one to two day courses taught by UM faculty at the campuses of each university.
