Business Law Professor Examines Ethics in Philanthropy
Anita Cava, professor of business law, director of the Business Ethics Program and co-director of UM Ethics Programs, outlined a number of ethical obstacles that might arise with philanthropic planning during a presentation at the United Way of Miami-Dade’s Ansin Building on Feb. 12.
The event, “The Ethics of Philanthropy: Protecting Reputation and the ‘Bottom Line’: Making Better Business Decisions,” was hosted by the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP) of Miami-Dade.
Cava spoke about best practices in the development function of non-profit organizations. “It is important to be aware of potential pitfalls involved with soliciting and even accepting donations,” said Cava. “Despite the best of intentions, there can be conflicts of interest that must be recognized and addressed.”
