"Mosaic is a commercial about the University of Miami's Olympics sports---the sports you don't get to see on TV," O'Leary noted in his acceptance speech on Dec. 6 in Orlando, where the award was presented. "It is with great passion and pride that these student-athletes compete for and represent the U. It has been a privilege to work with them."
A year earlier, he won an Emmy award as part of a winning team of five producers of a 30-minute show entitled “NASCAR: Beyond the Wheel.” The show focuses on race recaps, history of the track, and the stories of different drivers. O'Leary also produced a show entitled “NASCAR-Driven to Win,” which has been aired on A & E, the History Channel and the Biography Channel.
O'Leary, who earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, came to UM to broaden his experience.
"It is important for me to diversify my work experience and education," he says.
Besides producing videos for the athletic department, O'Leary is also the president of the School's Marketing Club. He's used his position to bring in several speakers and organize marketing plan development projects.
"I reach out to a lot of professionals in the city and set up meetings where they can teach/present/impart wisdom for the club members," O'Leary says. "It's a fun and interesting experience to hear from people of diverse backgrounds."
After graduation in May 2009, O'Leary says he wants to work for "a huge company that will have a presence in TV, print, public events, sponsorships, Internet, cell phones, everything! I want to work in a company that offers a lot."
