Susy Alvarez-Díaz

Susy Alvarez-Díaz teaches undergraduate and graduate entrepreneurship courses through the Department of Management at the University of Miami, School of Business Administration and at Bascom Palmer Institute – Master of Science in Vision Science and Investigative Ophthalmology Program, respectively. She is the former director of entrepreneurship programs at the University of Miami where she more than doubled enrollment, tripled participation in the annual Business Plan Competition and hosted ABC’s Shark Tank two years in a row, the only university in all of Florida to do so.

Aside from being an academic, Alvarez-Díaz is also a serial entrepreneur.  She has over 25 years’ experience in marketing and corporate communications including public relations, branding, internal communications, public affairs, and community and university relations.  She is the Founder and CEO of ADG Omnimedia – a public relations, marketing and branding firm she launched in 2002. Susy worked with the White House Rapid Response team during the 2004 Presidential debate and aided in handling the press at the vice president's town hall meeting in Miami. Her firm handles numerous Fortune 500 clients, as well as start-ups.

Alvarez-Díaz worked for Hewlett-Packard's Latin America Region launching marketing campaigns and promotions with sales distributors. As the Latin America region communications and public relations manager, she then worked on the successful and historic IPO of HP's spin-off, Agilent Technologies Inc., also serving as the media and PR consultant to the president and CEO during his VIP visits to the region.

In addition, Alvarez-Díaz was selected to serve as a coach at Babson’s WINLab in Miami where her “winner” went on to win several pitches and prize money, including winning the UM Business Plan Competition.  She is executive director of STAYinFLA, a 501(c)3 supporting student entrepreneurs. 

Alvarez-Díaz is also working on research pertaining to the intersection of entrepreneurship and professional sports as a Foote Fellow faculty advisor.  She re-instituted and serves as the faculty advisor to Women in Business, which has won student organization of the year two years in a row.  She is also the faculty advisor to EPIC – UM’s Entrepreneurship Club and the Kappa Sigma fraternity. 

She is a member of the Iron Arrow Honor Society, Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and is a board member of CUARTO – the Cuban American Roundtable Organization.  Susy has served on the Miami Dade County Public Schools Attendance Boundary Committee, the Miami Dade County Women’s Commission, the Miami ALPFA Board, and the Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee. The South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recognized her with the 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year Award. She graduated with honors from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in international finance and marketing and a Master of Business Administration degree with a dual concentration in marketing and management.
