Impact Conferences

Convening Thought Leaders

The School’s impact conferences include one focused on The Business of Health Care, which draws more than 700 professionals to campus each year. The 2017 conference focused on the impact of the U.S. election and change in administration across health care sectors. Speakers included former U.S. secretaries of Health and Human Services, Donna E. Shalala and Kathleen Sebelius. Another panel brought together the leaders of virtually every major health care industry association, including James Madara (right), the CEO of the American Medical Association, and the CEOs of the American Hospital Association, America’s Health Insurance Plans, the Health Care Financial Management Association, and the Medical Group Management Association.

CIBER

The School of Business is home to the University of Miami Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). Established through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, CIBER offers the business community trainings and other services to promote international business within South Florida. Programs include Global Business Consulting, the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Program, Innovate Miami, the Trends in International Business Speaker Series, the Automated Export System Seminar and Workshop and other community programs.

Center for Health Sector Management and Policy

The Center for Health Sector Management and Policy serves as a resource to businesses and policy making bodies, conducts and disseminates leading edge research, and provides training and education for those in the health sector. The Center's consult practice helps organizations in the health sector tackle complex challenges in such areas as process improvement, supply chain management, health care economics, cost-effectiveness analysis, management and leadership, physician process management, ethics and compliance, international health care policy and health care technology.

The School’s Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute delivers a series of leadership focused programs, products and services help meet the demand for business leaders who can anticipate, embrace and ultimately shape change faced by organizations. The Institute offers best practices-based programs and products to assist aspiring and experienced leaders in shaping their leadership skills. These forward-thinking programs, lectures, and other initiatives enable leaders at every stage of their careers to manage more effectively, run results-driven organizations, and enhance human capital performance.

The School's annual Women in Leadership panel discussion brings together accomplished women to share their stories on driving change in life, business and community. Guests have the opportunity to network with fellow senior leaders and rising stars. Recent speakers have included Stephanie Aoun, a vice president at Goldman Sachs; Tere Blanca, the president and CEO, Blanca Commercial Real Estate; Alina Hudak, the deputy mayor of Miami Dade County; Tracy Wilson Mourning, the founder of Honey Shine;  Beatriz G. Sanchez, the chairwoman of Private Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs; Romaine Seguin, the president for the Americas Region at UPS International; Frances Aldrich Sevilla-Sacasa, the CEO of Itaú Private Bank International; and Kim Stone, the executive vice president and general manager, of The HEAT Group/American Airlines Arena, among others.

Cobb Leadership Lecture Series

The Cobb Leadership Lecture Series provides an opportunity for our students and other members of the community to hear from some of the nation’s most distinguished leaders in business and government. Speakers range from U.S. cabinet secretaries to the CEOs of some of the world’s largest corporations – leaders in the community representing a variety of views. In 2017, the Lecture Series featured Chris Matthews (right), host of MSNBC’s “Hardball.”
