Steps to Get Started
It’s never too early to think about studying abroad. Make a plan and outline your objectives, as this will help you in deciding when and where to study abroad. Your academic advisor in the Office of Undergraduate Programs will assist you in getting you started on outlining your curriculum plan to determine your optimum time to go abroad. Begin researching study abroad options at least nine months before you go abroad. It is even better to start planning as early as your first year on campus. Set some goals. There are many outstanding options for your Study Abroad experience. The best one for you depends on what you want.
* Why do you want to study abroad?
* Where do you want to go? Why?
* When do you want to go and how long would you like to stay?
* How will study abroad fit into your academic program?
* Do you want to study in a foreign language?
At the University of Miami, the International Education and Exchange Programs (IEEP) administers direct enrollment exchange programs with more 60 universities worldwide. Visit the Web site to review the countries and programs available through the university exchange programs. For more information, contact the office at ieep@miami.edu or call 305-284-3434. UM students must meet with an IEEP advisor (after meeting with their Business School Academic Advisor) in Allen Hall 111 if they are considering studying on a UM exchange program.
There are other opportunities for Study Abroad experiences outside the UM program in countries where UM does not offer exchanges. Jeanne Batridge in the Office of Undergraduate Programs will assist you in learning about a variety of different options. You may contact her at jbatridge@miami.edu.
