Carl Mbao
Economics
Lusaka, Zambia
Carl Mbao, an economics major, has a passion for public policy and economic issues and the impact they have on people around the world. He was drawn to UM for its diverse campus and its location as an international gateway.
Not only is Carl gaining new perspective on these issues in the classroom, he’s also getting hands-on experience in the real world. As a member of the School’s Hyperion Council, he’s working on projects that link the university to at-risk communities. And as part of the University’s Model United Nations (UN) program, Carl has gone around the country to participate in UN simulations to learn about and debate international public policy and economic issues.
“When I was in high school, I was looking to study abroad and go to a new place where I could find diversity and also learn something about a new culture. It turned out Miami and the University of Miami was the place to be.”
