Biography

Erika Schutt is currently a 4th year PhD candidate in Economics at the Miami Herbert Business School. Her research interests are Applied Econometrics, Impact Evaluation, and Public Policy, particularly in poverty and inequality, pensions, labor, and health. Her dissertation focuses on investigating the impacts of universal cash transfers across the income distribution. Particularly, she uses remittances in Colombia to study the heterogeneous effects of an exogenous increase in a household “unearned income" on the behavior of individuals.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Economics from Universidad de los Andes, she worked for research institutions and public policy entities in Colombia. Among those institutions were the Foundation for High Education and Development (Fedesarrollo), the most prestigious economic research center in Colombia, the National Planning Department (DNP), the Ministry of Social Protection (in charge of public policies in the areas of health, labor, and pensions), and the National Department of Statistics.
