Biography

Rob Becht was appointed Executive Director for Business Operations of the Miami Business School on August 1, 2017 and promoted to Executive Director for Finance and Administration in early 2018.  Prior to joining the University of Miami Business School, Mr. Becht spent over 10 years at the University of Notre Dame as Sr. Director of Finance and Administration directing the financial, administrative, and operational aspects of Notre Dame’s largest academic division, the College of Arts and Letters.  Previous to his career in higher education Mr. Becht practiced law as an associate attorney with the firm of Snell and Wilmer in Phoenix, AZ where he specialized in healthcare and corporate law.  Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Becht spent 17 years in healthcare management, eventually becoming CEO of a health facility management firm before pursuing a legal education focused on corporate healthcare law.  Mr. Becht graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a B.B.A. in Finance/Accounting, summa cum laude from the University of Miami with an M.B.A in health administration, and magna cum laude from Notre Dame Law School.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Finance – Through Sr. Budget Managers, responsible for budget planning and administration of the School unrestricted, restricted, and revenue generating resources.  Directs financial activities and fiscal management as a part of and in conjunction with the School’s executive leadership team.  Interfaces with affiliated units to support business operations.  Coordinates School financial functions with the Provost Office, Office of Financial Planning and Analysis, Controller’s Office, Procurement, and Human Resources offices.

Staff - Directs human resources activities, including staffing structure, staff recruitment and hiring, counseling, and performance enhancement. Implements University policies and supports University mission. Serves as liaison to the University’s Human Resources and General Counsel's offices. Serves primary staff leadership role for the Miami Business School.

Operations -  Interfaces with all department chairpersons, vice deans, and the dean on operational matters pertaining to strategic planning, infrastructure, marketing/communications, and special projects on facilities and space planning and computing and information technology needs.

Information Technology - Through the Executive Director for Information Technology, supervises and supports activities of the School’s Information Technology office regarding the implementation of information technology for faculty and administrative areas. Coordinates strategic information technology directives and coordinates with the University’s Office of Information Technology.

Centralized Management Functions — Supports and facilitates diverse School departments, offices, and affiliated staff. Assists faculty department chairs and program directors in managerial oversight and departmental planning. Central point of contact and resource for operating and administrative needs of the School.

Facilities Operations and Event Management — Through the Executive Director for Facilities Operations and Event Management, supervises and oversees MBS’s facilities utilization and renovations and event management/planning team. Coordinates and liaisons with campus building services, facilities management, architects office and School departments and faculty to assure facility needs are met in an effective and efficient manner.  Support world-class events management/planning to assure high-level, executive, c-suite level events are coordinated and conducted throughout the School.
