The Miami Herbert Business School at the University of Miami is organizing its 10th Behavioral Finance Conference.  Since the inaugural conference in 2010, the conference has evolved into one of the premier behavioral finance conferences worldwide. The quality of the papers that have been featured in the conference has helped the conference gain this reputation. In particular, since 2010, the conference has featured about 125 papers and 80 (64 in A rated journals) of them are either published, forthcoming, or past the first review round at premier journals like the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics.

The conference will be held on December 13-14, 2019 at the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables, Florida. The conference is sponsored by the Department of Finance at the University of Miami and the Review of Financial Studies (RFS). Nicholas C. Barberis from Yale will be the keynote speaker. We will also host an event where Nobel Laureate Robert Shiller from Yale University will discuss his new book.

Papers from all areas of behavioral finance and economics will be considered. Researchers from other related disciplines such as experimental finance and neuro-finance are encouraged to submit a paper. We also encourage submissions from junior researchers and doctoral students. In addition to the regular paper presentations, the conference will include a number of doctoral student presentations.

Programs from previous conferences are available here.

RFS Partnership

The Miami Behavioral Finance Conference and the Review of Financial Studies announce a combined submission process. Submitted papers to the Miami Behavioral Conference may also be considered for publication by the RFS, free of charge. The rules for this dual submission process are as follows:

  1. You must choose the dual submission option during the submission process.

  2. At the discretion of the RFS Sponsoring Editor, a small number of dual submissions will be invited to submit to the RFS. The RFS will waive the fee on such submissions and have the submission formally reviewed. In this case, the paper’s author will receive a copy of the RFS reviewer's report.

  3. Papers submitted for dual consideration must not be under review at another journal or the RFS, nor can they be considered for dual submission if previously rejected by the RFS.

  4. In the event that a dual submission, which has been invited for submission at the RFS, is subsequently rejected, its authors have the option to submit a future version of their paper to the RFS without prejudice.

While under consideration as a dual submission by the Miami Behavioral Conference and the RFS, a paper may not be submitted to another journal (or the RFS) until the author has been notified of the dual submission outcome.

At the end of the first day, there will be a boat cruise followed by the conference dinner. The conference will conclude on December 14, in the afternoon.

Acceptance Rate

We typically receive about 200 submissions and accept 10 to 12 papers for the conference.

We have negotiated reduced rates at The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables . We encourage staying at the conference hotel to facilitate the transportation to and from the University and the conference dinner venue. The registration fee is waived for presenters and discussants.
