Shirley Dennis received her Ph.D. from the University of Miami and returned to UM after teaching at the University of Hawaii-Manoa and California State University-Hayward. She is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice in Florida. She is a past president of the American Taxation Association and served on the Education Executive Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She has received awards recognizing her extensive service activities including the American Taxation Association’s Outstanding Service Award and the UM Business School’s Faculty Award for Excellence in Service. She has received several teaching awards including the University of Miami Excellence in Teaching Award and the Business School’s Excellence in Teaching Award for the MS in Taxation program. She has published numerous articles in tax and accounting journals as well as several books including Taxation for Decision Makers.
